Healing Through Creation: How Grief Reignited My Brand

Some stories are built from strategy.
Mine was rebuilt through heartbreak.

When I relaunched Ease Cosmetics, it wasn’t because I’d found the perfect investor pitch or marketing plan. It was because I lost two people who shaped my world, my father and my friend, and in their absence, I found something I hadn’t in years:

A reason to create again.

Grief Isn’t Just Loss, It’s a Mirror

In 2023, my father passed away. As I stood by him for the last time, I was hit with a wave of clarity I didn’t expect. My earliest memories of beauty came from watching him, a biochemist, mixing powders, oils, and creams from our home lab. His small cosmetic business may not have succeeded in the traditional sense, but it planted a seed in me that never stopped growing.

That moment of loss became a mirror. I saw everything I had paused, buried, or told myself could wait. And I realised: Ease was never just a brand. It was my legacy, too.

One Call That Changed Everything

Not long after, I received a phone call I’ll never forget. A close friend, someone who knew me before the detours, the pivots, the pain, called me from her hospital bed.
She said: “You need to go back to what you do best. Create beauty. Teach it. Share it.”

She had no idea how much I needed to hear that. And she had no idea she’d never speak to me again. But her words stayed. They echoed. And eventually, they became a promise I made to both of us.

The Power of Returning to What You Love

For years, I had stepped away from the beauty industry. I pivoted into tech. I raised my children. I went through a divorce that left me shattered. Like many women, I put myself on pause while I held everything else together.

But after losing so much, I realised the only way forward was to make it again. To build again. To create something not just to sell, but to honour what I’d lost and who I still was.

Ease: A Brand Reborn from Purpose

I didn’t relaunch Ease Cosmetics with the goal of being the loudest brand on the shelf. I brought it back with the intention of being the realest.

  • Real ingredients that care for the skin, not just cover it.

  • Real shades designed to reflect real-world undertones.

  • Real artistry, built from 17+ years of experience, not trend chasing.

  • And real impact, through education, mentorship, and community.

Because when you rebuild from grief, you don’t come back to impress.
You come back to matter.

 

What Grief Taught Me About Beauty

Grief stripped everything away, the expectations, the comparisons, the pressure to prove myself. And in that quiet space, I remembered:

Beauty isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.
It’s not about flawless finishes. It’s about feeling like yourself again.
And sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do… is start over.
