Why Teaching Makeup Matters: Empowering the Next Generation of Artists
If you’ve ever sat in a makeup class with shaky hands and big dreams, I see you.
Because I was once you.
Teaching makeup isn’t just a side project for me. It’s not a marketing strategy or a way to stay "in the game." It’s the heartbeat of what I do, and a major part of why Ease exists today.
After nearly two decades in the industry, from freelance jobs and editorial shoots to brand consulting and productformulation, I’ve come full circle: back to the classroom. Back to the brush. Back to the next generation of artists.
Here’s why teaching makeup matters more than ever.
Makeup Education is About More Than Technique
Yes, we cover technique, application, blending, colour theory, lighting, skin prep. But what I really teach goes beyond the brush.
I teach:
-
Confidence in your artistry
-
Client care and professionalism
-
Creative direction and vision
-
Self-worth in an industry that often makes you question it
Because you can learn how to create a flawless base on YouTube. But what about how to navigate a difficult client? How to charge your worth? How to build a career with integrity, not burnout?
That’s the education that changes lives.
Why I Came Back to Teaching
After pausing my brand in 2019 due to personal challenges and a career pivot, I didn’t expect to teach again. But grief has a way of clearing the noise, and when I lost my father and a close friend in 2023, I found myself being called back to the very place I began: mentoring young artists.
A friend’s final words to me were:
“Go back to what you do best. Create. Teach. Share it.”
And so I did.
Teaching became my way to heal, but it also became a way to pour purpose into every artist I meet.
Experience is a Privilege, and It Should Be Shared
There are so many makeup artists out there with potential. Raw, beautiful talent. But what many lack is mentorship.
Someone to say:
“You’re good enough.”
“This is how the industry really works.”
“Here’s how you protect your peace and your career.”
After 17 years in beauty, I don’t want to gatekeep that wisdom. I want to give it away generously.
Because the next generation of makeup artists deserve better than trial and error. They deserve support.
